(If you are a young adult Bahá’í, please read this in full. Send this to other young adults that you know.)
Dear Young Adults,
My name is Nevin Jenkins and I am a young adult in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Young adult Baha’is are really doing great things in the world. However, at times we feel left out because many conferences focus on youth perspectives, and then when we turn 25, we suddenly become adults.
Realizing the special needs of the young adult Bahá’í Community, Louhelen Bahá’í school asked Michelle Tashakor to set up a committee in order to have our first young adult conference. I was asked to serve on the committee, as well as a few others from our region. We entitled the conference “Insights”, and after much planning, it was held at Louhelen, in Davison, Michigan, from April 23rd-25th, 2004. It was obvious that the young adults who attended had a great time, because the responses to the evaluations were overwhelmingly positive.
The energy has been so intense, that there has been an article in the American Bahá’í, and in upcoming months, Insights will be featured on the Bahá’í Newsreel. There are even plans for an Insights West to be held at Bosch Bahá’í School in California, and an Insights East to be held at Green Acre in Maine. Those two conferences as well as the Louhelen Insights will be held in different months in 2005.
I am attempting to create a team to network young adult Baha’is, primarily in America, but including Baha’is from all over the world.
What is the purpose of this network? A few of my thoughts are listed below.
- To stay informed of Bahá’í Conferences that interest young adults.
- To set up a support system for young adult singles and young families.
- To support young adults in their careers, as well as give them ideas on choosing a career that they will be passionate about.
- To create a network of businesses, so that we can support each other financially.
- To encourage the young adults in our communities to support the plans provided to us by the Universal House of Justice, and our National Spiritual Assembly. (Currently the Five Year plan.)
I am looking for a crew of young adults that can assist the committees that will be created in the near future. My vision is to get a team of database administrators, website creators, marketing specialists, as well as any one else that wants to serve in some way in assisting these efforts.
Please e-mail me ASAP at NevinJenkins@BahaiGear.com if you would like to serve. Even if you simply want to stay informed until we are up and running, please e-mail me so I can begin creating the database of young adults.

Some of you might be thinking: What exactly is a young adult? Let’s put it this way, young adults get a feeling when attending Bahá’í functions that they are young adults. You know who you are. And we want you involved.
In His Service,
Nevin Jenkins
